Data Scientist (m/f/d) Land Surface Temperature (LST) (m/f/d)

The Mission

At OroraTech Germany, we are on a mission to revolutionize how businesses and governments utilize space-based thermal data, specifically focusing on Land Surface Temperature (LST) data products. We are seeking an experienced LST Data Scientist / Developer to join our team. Your first task will be to mature, maintain and scale our LST prototype for production-ready use. This role involves close collaboration with our ground segment, the Level-1 data product team, Data Science, Business Development, Product Development, and Sales teams to drive growth and innovation in sectors such as climate, government, and more.

What you’ll be doing

Responsible for refining and maintaining our LST prototype for data deliveries to our customers
Basis: Level 1 thermal radiance products. Experience with processing low level remote sensing data products is preferred.
Implement new features from the LST roadmap and ensure their technical feasibility and scalability in collaboration with the team
Support the calibration and validation team to ensure the accuracy and reliability of LST data products.
Analysis and processing of third-party data products to improve our LST data product.
Conducting research and development to enhance the accuracy and reliability of LST data products.
Visualizing and communicating results and on-going developments on a regular basis internally and externally to potential customers.
Monitoring and reporting on the performance of LST data products

Relevant Skills

Minimum of 3 years in data science or related field. Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Climatology, or related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
Profen experience in developing and maintaining software products. Relevant skills include Python, Docker, Linux, Git, Unit Testing and REST APIs.
Preferred: Experience in working with remote sensing libraries and processing of geospatial data.
Knowledge about atmospheric physics and emissivity estimation is advantageous (i.e. atmospheric correction, emissivity estimation and radiative transfer).
Familiarity with physical and statistical modeling.
Experience in calibration and validation of Earth Observation data products.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to visualize concepts and translate technical insights into business solutions. Proactive and results-driven mindset. High adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
